SMBaseball

In 2023 I started a Baseball Youtube channel by the name of SMBaseball which can be found here:

I began by posting a daily shorts series on the channel recapping what happened each day of MLB spring training. The focus for me quickly changed towards longer form story forward content. A turning point for me was a video recapping a game that had happened on April 28th, 2017 between the Yankees and Orioles. This was a historic comeback for the Yankees that set the tone of their season. Over the lifetime of the video, it received 25,000+ views.

Shortly after, I began producing a new video on a topic I was interested in learning more about. I researched the longest game in MLB history and made a 12 minute video recapping what happened in the game, storylines that came from it, and its historical significance. This video would become the most popular on my channel accumulating over 93,000 views.

Another video I produced during this time that I am proud of is titled, “The Rise and Fall of Aaron Hicks”. This was a viewer suggested idea that I took the time to research and turn into a full length project. This would end up being my longest video to date being nearly 17 minutes documenting the career of Aaron Hicks. This video now sits at over 4,500 views.

Sean Mahar Media

This channel was born during the summer of 2024 when I wanted to produce a piece of content. I decided to focus on an abandonded rail line that runs through my home town of Nutley and connects 2 of the largest cities in New Jersey to each other, Newark and Paterson. Only one video was produced for this channel and it gained support from many locals. The project can be found here:

Takeaways

These projects were completed independently, with responsibility for every stage of production. This is including research, scripting, editing, and publishing. Through this process, I developed a strong understanding of what it takes to turn an idea into a finished piece of content that is engaging and worth watching. Managing the entire workflow also strengthened my technical abilities in programs such as Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects, while improving my efficiency in post-production.

Publishing the content on YouTube provided valuable insight into audience behavior and engagement. By observing how viewers interacted with the videos through views, retention, and feedback, I gained a better understanding of what captures attention and keeps an audience invested. Overall, these projects helped me refine both the creative and technical aspects of digital storytelling while developing a deeper awareness of how content performs in a real online environment.
